In collaboration with El Centro de Paz Barbara Ford, Global Healthworks Foundation medical volunteers joined local health promoters to provide medical services to nearly 600 indigenous patients from the rural Guatemalan communities of Santa Cruz del Quiché and Chichicastenango. Our treatments included acupuncture and moxibustion, natural herbal remedies, therapeutic massage, Reiki energy healing, rehabilitative exercises, and nutritional counseling. Importantly, all these services were offered free of charge to patients. Thanks to all who participated!

GHF 2023 Year in Review ◆ Quiché, Guatemala
In collaboration with El Centro de Paz Barbara Ford, medical volunteers from the Global Healthworks Foundation teamed up with local health promoters to extend our medical outreach efforts. Together, we safely delivered acupuncture and moxibustion treatments, natural herbal remedies, therapeutic massages, nutritional guidance, and various other healthcare services to several hundred patients in rural Guatemalan communities within the Department of Quiché, Guatemala. Patients were also provided instructions for at-home body-movement exercises. Additionally, we conducted informational talks addressing domestic violence prevention and offered counseling support when needed. A special thanks to all the dedicated individuals who played a vital role in making this possible!

GHF Spring Renewal Initiative ◆ Guatemala, 2022
To celebrate ten-years of service in Guatemala and Spring-2022 as a season of renewal, GHF Founder Dan Wunderlich and veteran volunteer Julie Ing Stern joined local health promoters to safely deliver healthcare services to the communities of Xatinap, Chichicastengo, San Antonio Ilotenango, and Santa Cruz del Quiché. In addition to providing education on the prevention of COVID-19, the team provided medical treatments based on acupuncture and Chinese medicine, including moxibustion heat therapy, therapeutic massage, special suction cupping, body-movement exercises, and natural herbal remedies.
In light of the ongoing pandemic, in this summary video, Dan also discusses the importance of all community members continuing to take measures to prevent the spread of the COVID virus.

Coronavirus Mobile Clinic Reboot Initiative ◆ Guatemala, 2021
Expanding on our previous healthworks delivering quarantine kits and coronavirus prevention materials to families in need in rural Guatemala, Global Healthworks Foundation (GHF) piloted a fine-tuned set of mobile clinic services and treated approximately one hundred patients per day in each of four different communities in the Department of Quiché. In addition to receiving “Stop the Spread” Coronavirus Prevention Kits, our patients safely received comprehensive medical treatments which included acupuncture, therapeutic massage, body-movement exercises, natural herbal remedies, nutritional guidance, and psychological counseling support.

Bringing Acupuncture Medicine to the Underserved
This short video explains how Global Healthworks Foundation thinks beyond immediate treatment and healthcare delivery by planning for the sustainable accessibility of our community-based medical outreach programs. Two-three times a year, GHF volunteers and our Quiché-based team of local health promoters participate in large-scale medical missions, which offer services to some twelve-fifteen hundred patients in a span of just five or six days. Our Mobile Clinic program expands acupuncture accessibility by literally bringing the medicine of acupuncture to these underserved communities. This short video includes several volunteer commentaries and patient testimonials attesting to the impact of their high-quality, cost-free treatments.
GHF Covid-19 Response Initiative ◆ Fall 2020
As one can imagine, the effects of Covid-19 added further hardship on a population already suffering extreme poverty and violence - and this is especially the case in the Mayan communities in Guatemala. To continue our humanitarian goals, Global Healthworks Foundation (GHF) launched our Covid-19 Response Initiative to deliver Coronavirus Prevention and Wellness Kits to families in need. The kits are designed to minimize the effect of the global pandemic on families, and they contain healthy food staples, face masks, natural plant medicines, and instruction materials to help educate people on steps they can take to prevent and respond to the spread of the coronavirus. This short video highlights our outreach efforts to deliver the wellness kits to families in need following strict physical distancing and sanitation guidelines.

A small (but excellent!) team of seven acupuncturists & two massage therapists, were joined by a terrific group of local translators and Health Promoters (therapists) – and in less than five days we treated more than 1,250 patients in the communities of El Quiché and Chichicastenango.Our patients received: blood pressure and diabetes testing, auricular and full-body acupuncture, therapeutic soft-tissue massage or special suction cupping, herbal/ natural plant remedies, nutritional and life-style counseling, and instructions for at-home body-movement rehabilitation exercises ("movimientos de sanacion").

The local television Channel 4 television station interviewed Benita Us Ixquin, the mother of Brian, one of our favorite young visitors to Global Healthworks Foundation outreach clinics in Quiché, Guatemala. Brian originally presented a few years ago with limb pain, unable to walk without using a chair as crutches. Local doctors were unable (or unwilling) to help him, and luckily his Mom brought him to a GHF jornada (Medical Health Camp). He has received regular treatments from our mobile clinic team and today he is active in playtime activities, walking just fine!

GHF Tribute to Greg Radicone ◆ April-2017
During the three-year period in which he served as GHF’s Central America Program Manager, Greg Radicone expanded the Foundation’s weekly mobile clinic program to provide healthcare services to new indigenous communities throughout the districts of El Quiché and Chichicastengo, Guatemala. And more than 15,000 patients received comprehensive treatments with acupuncture, natural herbal remedies, therapeutic soft-tissue bodywork, Reiki energy healing, nutritional and lifestyle counseling, and rehabilitative body movement exercises!

GHF Tribute to Peter Caron
During the 18-month period in which he served as GHF’s Central America Program Manager, Peter Caron spearheaded the launch of the Foundation’s weekly mobile clinic program which provides much needed healthcare to indigenous communities throughout the district of Quiché, Guatemala. During his tenure, the GHF mobile clinic provided comprehensive treatments to nearly 7,000 patients.

In October 2014, our talented team of dedicated practitioners volunteered tirelessly at the Bárbara Ford Peacebuilding Center in Santa Cruz del Quiché to provide Integrative Healthcare treatments to the wonderful indigenous people of Guatemala.
Accumulating tons of experience from four prior trips here, 15 returning team members were joined by a few more newbies to form an EXTRAORDINARY team of volunteer practitioners. By week's end, more than 1,500 patients were treated with acupuncture, massage and other integrative healthcare modalities!
